Solemn assembly in observation of the Student Holiday

There was a solemn assembly in observation of the Student Holiday on 8 December at the University Ceremony Hall. The assembly began with a salutation by Rector, Prof. Dr. Hristo Bondzholov.

Mr. Bartosz.Adamczewski from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan saluted the attendees on behalf of the foreign students at the University of Veliko Tarnovo. He is currently studying in the Bulgarian Philology degree course.

The event continued by awarding of the Academic Grant of Veliko Tarnovo for the seventeenth time. The grant amounts to 5000 euros and its recipient is Blagoy Kirilov Tumbarov, a student studying in the Law degree course. The grant was awarded by Daniel Panov, Mayor of Veliko Tarnovo.

Eleven people, one for each faculty and branch, were awarded the Scholarship of the Academic Council which amounts to 1000 levs. These scholarships are part of the University’s budget.

Rector Prof. Dr. Hristo Bondzholov awarded the Scholarship of the Rector for a third consecutive year. It was founded in honour of Prof. Aleksandar Burmov, founder and first rector of the University, on 2 February 2011 for the 100-year anniversary of his birth. This scholarship is paid for by the Rector himself and amounts to the pay raise which a rector receives – 900 levs. This year’s recipient of the scholarship is Aleksandar Hristov Hristov, full-time doctoral student at the Department of Bulgarian Literature.

The scholarship founded in honour of Prof. Ph.D. Georgi Dimov, founded by his son, Hristo Dimov, was awarded for the first time this year to Kaloyan Angelov Georgiev, a third-year student studying in the Bulgarian Philology degree course.

Faculty of Education alumni, Pavel Tsankov Stoychev, awarded three grants, amounting to 250 levs, for the third consecutive year. The grants go to students studying in the Social Pedagogy degree course and doing active charity work.

“Allianz Bank, Bulgaria” awarded 9 excelling students, one from each faculty, a 500 levs grant for 8 December.

University of Veliko Tarnovo student achievements and accomplishments were announced during the assembly. 59 women and men won first prises in world, European and national championships, competitions and contests, and have achieved scientific, research, artistic and sports accomplishments, and have been contributing to their community between December 2016 and December 2017.

The assembly concluded with one of Pasha Hristova’s emblematic songs, “Povey, vetre” performed by Rozaliya Zhelyaskova, a student in the Pedagogy of teaching music degree course.
