Today, at the monument to the brother saints Cyril and Methodius the official opening ceremony of the academic 2017/2018 year was held.
The total number of students that have enrolled this year is 2666 – both in Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts programmes.
The University of Veliko Tarnovo, along with the University of Sofia “St. Kliment Ohridski”, is becoming a national leader educating students in pedagogy, the Humanities, the Arts, the social, economic and juridical sciences, as well as IT.
The 55th academic year at the University of Veliko Tarnovo began with a welcoming speech by Prof. Dr. Hristo Bondzholov.
Students swore by the student oath recited by Prof. Dr. Radoslav Radev and composed by poet and playwright Radko Radkov, Chevalier of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and twice awarded the "Solenzara" Napoleon Award, in 2004 for the newly enrolled students of the University of Veliko Tarnovo.
Prof D.Sc.H. Kazimir Popkonstantinov, lecturer at UVT and world-famous archaeologist, medievalist and epigraphist, was awarded The Honorary Sign of the Rector for raising and strengthening the University’s prestige.
The ceremony was attended by the deputy mayor of Veliko Tarnovo, the region’s regional governor, Members of Parliament, directors of governmental and non-governmental organisations, students and alumni of the University of Veliko Tarnovo, as well as delegations from the Tver State University, Russia and the Gavrilo Romanovich Derzhavin International Slavic University, Sveti Nikole, Macedonia.
